The short answer
On a $30 sale Etsy keeps $3.30 and eBay keeps $4.48. Which one is cheaper depends on the price:

- Etsy
- $0.20 listing fee, 6.5% transaction fee on item plus shipping, and 3% + $0.25 payment processing. Orders that come from an Offsite Ad pay 15% more.

What the fee table does not show
Fees only matter if the item sells. Etsy's buyers come for handmade goods, vintage items and craft supplies, and its rules limit what you may list. eBay takes almost anything, new or used, and adds auctions.
The Etsy figures assume the order did not come from an Offsite Ad. You cannot predict which orders will, and shops above the sales threshold cannot opt out, so price with the ad fee in mind if your margin is thin.
eBay's rate depends on the category. The table uses the rate for most categories; books, jewelry, handbags and several others are higher, guitars and expensive athletic shoes lower.
