How to read the table

  • Fees is everything the platform keeps, with the share of the sale underneath.
  • Payout is what reaches your balance.
  • Profit is the payout minus your item cost and, where you pay for the label, your shipping cost.

Frequently asked questions

Which assumptions does the comparison use?

US sellers and standard options on every platform: eBay's rate for most categories with a US buyer, Etsy without Offsite Ads, Depop without a boost, Mercari without Instant Pay. Open a platform's own calculator to change any of these.

Why does Vinted always come out on top?

Because Vinted charges the seller nothing, so at the same sale price it leaves the most. The fee has not disappeared: the buyer pays it on top of your price, along with shipping. Depop works the same way for its marketplace fee. If buyers compare totals, the price your item actually sells for may be lower on those platforms.

Why is shipping treated differently for Poshmark and Mercari?

On Poshmark the buyer pays Poshmark a flat shipping rate and you get a prepaid label, so the shipping fields do not apply. On Mercari, shipping paid by the buyer covers the label: it raises the selling fee but is not your income or your cost. If you enter no shipping charge, Mercari is calculated with free shipping and your own shipping cost.

Does the cheapest platform mean the highest profit?

Only if the item sells for the same price everywhere. The comparison holds the price constant so you can see the effect of fees alone; where the item sells fastest and for how much is a separate question.
