Overview

This tool works out a final price after a percentage discount, then adds tax and shipping to get a total. It's built for the arithmetic sellers do when setting a markdown or clearance price on a listing — start from your regular price, apply the discount you're offering, and see the number a buyer actually pays.

How to Use This Tool

1. Enter the original (pre-discount) price.
2. Enter the discount percentage you're applying.
3. Enter your local sales tax rate — this is calculated on the discounted subtotal, not the original price.
4. Set the quantity if you're pricing multiple units.
5. Add shipping cost if it's charged separately from the item price.
6. Click Calculate Total. Click Clear to reset every field.

Worked Example

An item normally priced at $100, marked down 25%, sold as two units, with 8% local sales tax and $10 flat shipping:

• Discount: $100 × 25% = $25 off each unit
• Discounted price per unit: $75
• Subtotal for 2 units: $150
• Tax (8% of $150): $12
• Shipping: $10
• Final total: $150 + $12 + $10 = $172
• Total savings from the discount: $25 × 2 = $50

Reading the Results

The breakdown separates each step so you can see exactly where the total came from: the discount amount removed, the discounted subtotal, tax calculated on that subtotal — which matters, since most US states tax the post-discount amount, not the original price — and shipping added at the end. Total Savings is the raw dollar amount the discount removed, before tax and shipping.

Limitations

Tax is calculated as a single flat percentage on the discounted subtotal — it doesn't model jurisdictions that tax shipping separately, apply tax before rather than after a discount, or split tax across multiple rates such as state plus local. Common Use Cases

Sellers use this to price a clearance or end-of-season markdown before publishing it: figuring out what percentage off still leaves room for platform fees, or what a buyer's final charged total will look like once tax and shipping are added on top of the sale price. It also works for straightforward shopping math — checking what a "25% off" sticker actually knocks off the price you'll pay at checkout.
