How Venmo fees work
Paying friends on Venmo is free. Venmo charges when you are paid for something you sell.

- Business profile: every payment you receive is charged, whatever the payer selects.
- Personal profile: only payments the payer tags as goods and services are charged. That tag is also what gives the payer purchase protection.
- Instant transfer: 1.75% of the amount you move out, minimum $0.25, maximum $25.00. The standard transfer is free.
Worked example
A customer pays your business profile $150.00 and you move the money to your bank straight away.
- Venmo fee: 1.9% × $150.00 + $0.10 = $2.95.
- Balance to move: $150.00 − $2.95 = $147.05.
- Instant transfer: 1.75% of that = $2.57.
- In your bank: $144.48. With a standard transfer you would have $147.05.
What this calculator leaves out

How much does Venmo take from $100?
$2.00 if you are paid on a business profile (you keep $98.00), or $2.99 if a payment to your personal profile is tagged as goods and services. Payments between friends are free when funded from a balance, bank account or debit card.
What is the Venmo instant transfer fee?
1.75% of the amount you move to your bank or card, with a minimum of $0.25 and a maximum of $25.00. A standard bank transfer is free. Tick the instant transfer box to include the fee.
Is a business profile cheaper than tagging goods and services?
On small payments, no: the $0.10 fixed part outweighs the lower percentage. On a $5 payment a business profile costs $0.20 and a goods and services payment $0.15. Above $9.17 the business profile is the cheaper of the two.
